These àare the six books that Srila Jiva Goswami wrote. àIn Í

the àfirst àfour books he analizes the àsambandha, àbecause àthis Í sambandha is the theme about which are so many confusions and àso Í many àtheories and philosophies. So he wrote these four books àto Í analize àthis àin great detail, because àunless àone àunderstands Í sambandha clearly, he will not attain the goal.

He àwrites àBhagavat-sandharbha àand àKrsna-samdharbha. ààIn Í

Krsna-sandarbha àhe explains that there is bhagavan but there àis Í svayam-bhagavan and that is Lord Krsna. There is establishes Lord Í Krsna as the Supreme Personality of Godhead. If Srila Jiva GoswaÍ mi had not writen the Krsna-sandarbha it would be very àdifficult Í to prove that Krsna is svayam-bhagavan. Here he does the most auÍ thoritatively work, the topmost research work of this àkali-yuga, Í to àexplain àthat Krsna is actually the àSupreme àPersonality àof Í Godhead, àbecause even in other vaisnava-sampradayas àthey àdon't Í accept àit. àThey àall think that Krsna is àsome àincarnation àof Í Visnu, àNarayana, àRama, Pradyumna or Sankarsana, àetc. àSo àmany Í philosophies. àIn Krsna-sandarbha he takes all àthese àarguments, Í defeats àeverything and establishes Krsna as bhagavan-svayam. àHe Í says that this is his cakravarti statement, or the emperor state great detail because there are so many àtypes Í of àbhakti. àThere àis àsaguna-bhakti, ànirguna-bhakti, àsadhana-Í bhakti, àraganuga-bhakti, bhava-bhakti, prema-bhakti... He àanalÍ izes àeverything. Even though bhakti has been analized àby àSrila Í Rupa àGoswami àin àhis àBhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, àin àhis àBhakti-Í sandarbha àSrila àJiva Goswami reveals so many new things àand àa Í wonderful analizes of devotion.

Finally àhe wrote Prti-sandarbha to explain the àprayojana-Í

tattva, àor the purpose, the goal. That is prema or love of àGodÍ head, because in our Gaudiya-vaisnava sampradaya we don't considÍ er àonly àbhakti as the goal but prema. For us àprema àis àbeyond Í bhakti.

These are the six sandarbhas. After analizing these things, Í

then àhe starts speaking about jivatattva and also àspeaks àabout Í Mayavada. àThere àare àsome ànice àlogic àstatements àin àTattva-Í sandarbha to defeat impersonal philosophy although he does not go Í into àvery much detail because in Tattva-sandarbha he just àwants Í to àgive like a gist. In one way Tattva-sandarbha is just a àgist Í of àthe sat-sandarbhas and then he expands this more àin àdetail. Í That is why it is called Tattva-sandarbha because it gives àthe Í tattva of this philosophy. And also he establishes the philosophy Í of àacintya- àbhedabeda in brief and he will explain it àin àmore Í detail in the Paramatma-sandarbha.

Srila àJiva Goswami himself also wrote a commentary on àthe Í

sat-sandarbhas. àAfter àwriting àthe sat-sandarbhas àhe àwas ànot Í satisfied àso then he wrote a commentary which is called à'sarva-Í samohadhi(?)'. àThis àis even more philosophical àthen àthe àsat-Í sandarbhas. àThe language of the sat-sandarbhas is highly àphiloÍ sophical àbut àthis sarva-samohadhi (?) is even àmore àdifficult. Í There àhe takes all the philosophies from Carvaka up to the àphiÍ losophy àof Madvacarya and Ramanujacarya and he finds defects àin Í all àof àthem and then he establishes that àthe àonly àphilosophy Í which is the highest, which is the heart of Srimad-Bhagavatam, is Í "acintya àbeda-beda". Even though in Paramatma-sandarbha he àmenÍ tiones this acintya beda-beda concept, only in sarva-samohadhi he Í makes it very clear that it is our main philosophical concept. In Í the àsandarbhas he defeats the mayavada philosophy but his àstyle Í is more mellow and from the point of Srimad-Bhagavatam. In sarva-Í samohandi he speaks more like a scholar quoting many verses àfrom Í the àUpanishads, àhe àtakes the statements àof àSankaracarya àand Í defeats all of them.

Then àhe àspeaks about the function of àMaya. àShe àcreates Í

illusion but she herself exists. Srila Jiva Goswami explains àwhy Í the àLord do not stop her from troubling the living entities àand Í he àsays because she is also a devotee and just as a criminal àhe Í may be beaten in front of the King and the King has the power àto Í stop the person who is beating but he will not do it because àthe Í punishment is good for the criminal. Maya does something good for
